This beautiful, original artwork was drawn in charcoal on heavyweight A3 size paper.
 
It is from the "Paper Series" of work; and is one of my personal favourites. I am glad it remains unsold.
 
This piece, Writer's Block, was created to express the frustration that accompanies the creative process. I often find I go through bursts of creativity only for it to suddenly abandon me without warning. I find myself staring at a blank piece of paper, willing an idea to appear. The crumpled, slightly dog-eared appearance, and coffee stain, are there as an indication of the length of time I have been without inspiration.
 
Like several others in the series, this drawing employs Trompe-l'œil, a French term meaning "deceives the eye," which is a techniques to create the illusion of three-dimensional objects and spaces on a two-dimensional surface in a highly realistic way.
