A bit about me and my work

I'm Carl, a self-taught artist based in the North West of England creating original charcoal artwork.

I've loved drawing since I was young, but it wasn't until later in life that I began developing a style that really felt like my own. I love charcoal as a medium; the ability to create rich, dark blacks and yet also produce very fine and delicate details.

I would describe my work as contemporary realism. I create very realistic drawings, but I don't just replicate what I see. I try to create art that tells a story, whether that is literal or open to interpretation.

I could tell you other uninteresting details about myself, but none of that will help you understand the work I’ve created. My artwork helps me feel and process emotions. Each piece is a reflection of my personal experiences, and the world around me. ​
